I was very happy in World Camp, even though it was not in every minute and second. I have changed in my attitude toward people. Until I became a volunteer of IYF, I was not very interested in other people's affairs, I mean I will not talk to people around me or pay attention to what they are talking about when I believe that it's not important or relevant to me. I felt lonely sometimes because of this attitude. I used to wish I could be another person who was very welcomed and friendly. I wished I had been someone who could talk to anyone, at any time, at any place, and in any occassion, both formal and informal. World Camp had made me felt the changes within me. I have been trying to talk to people around me even those who I don't know at all or don't know well because I learned this from the mind education. Someone may say that it's not good to be so open to other people, but I believe it's good for me.
My family is not as conservative as other families do. My mum is not so complaining as other mothers. I can have friends, even male friends, to visit my house and chat for more than an hour. However, if you ask any of my friends' family if their friends of the opposite sex could visit their house, they would say that it is impossible. Even taking photos with each other or calling on the phone are restricted. Why so? It's too outdated to have such a constraint!

IYF World Camp 2010
Hurray! I’m back from World Camp!
Having been working hard in promotion activity and looking forward to participating in the World Camp, we’ve finally passed through this fantastic event when students, totally 1072 from almost every university in Phnom Penh, gathered and experience good change, new challenge, and strong cohesion.
World Camp was celebrated at both NIE and Naga World, participated by 1,592 students of which 1,072 are Cambodian students and others are from Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea. We met at 8:00 in the morning and dispersed at around 8:30 pm. In each day we moved between NIE and Naga World. We would have lunch and dinner at NIE and do other activities at Naga World.
We watched many cultural performances by Righteous Star dance group, Rio Montana, students from Lincoln school, and Gracias Choir. Righteous Star made us alive; Rio Montana’s guitar playing and songs mad us high; Lincoln school’s performances brought us to different cultures; and Gracias’ music brought peace to our mind.
We would have dinner at round tables with 10 people each. I ate every meal with different people. Some tables were noisy but some were quiet.
The most interesting session would be the Academy class. On 17th, there were 8 classes including Dance, Taekwando, Rio Montana Song, Rio Montana Guitar, Photography, Korean Mask Art, Korean Language, and Good New Corp (GNC) program. However, most students are interested in only Taekwando, Dance, Photograph, and Rio Montana Guitar. Therefore, the next day other classes were cancelled. On 19th, the last day of Academy class, a class of how to make Kim Chi was created responding to the request of Dr. Ock Soo Park, the founder of IYF.
Being a team leader is somewhat difficult. I had to arrive there earlier than the participants and supervise my group members. In addition, I had to write a report at night after returning home. Despite of these, I did learn something from this leadership and enjoy the process.
From World Camp, I learned to be brave and open-minded. I tried to communicate with and smile to people I don’t know; I challenged myself by learning Taekwando and dancing; I tried to talk more than I used to do.

Team Leader Training & Mini Olympic Rehearsal
What does a team leader have to do in the World Camp? This question has come in my mind since I was given this position. On this three-day holiday, we were advised how we should do to win the hearts of our group members and become an effective leader.
In most circumstances, I often work as a leader. However, I don’t think that I am a good one since I cannot inspire others to do what I really want. Mostly, my group members would just finish what I gave them to do without trying all of their effort. I have always told people that I don’t like working in a group because I don’t want to be encumbered. I had been having too much opinion of myself and had trusted only myself. However, the promotion activity which we had to do in groups changes my attitude. I need group members to help achieve our common goal. I cannot achieve it alone without their kind assistance; I even feel that they could promote the program better than I could. Although some of them may have not been very active, the others are very helpful and competitive. Working in this group was a valuable and unforgettable experience.
In the first two days, we had a meeting at 9:00 in the morning and listened to the teaching of the teacher who taught us about the world of mind which is very important in leading people. According to the teaching of the President of IYF in Cambodia and another teacher, being a leader, it’s important that we understand ourselves first before we could understand others. All people basically share the same preferences, for example, they like having lots of money; they prefer to sit in an air-conditioned room than sitting in hot and stuffy room; they want to be recognized and respected; and so on. When we know what they want, we can inspire them by applying the right things. In addition, a leader must learn from other successful leaders and his or her subordinates. Other leaders may have better methods in leading from which we can learn and apply to our group. Some of our subordinates may have good ideas which we can use, so we must pay close attention to them while they are talking. When you respect them, they will in turn respect you too. Many people confine themselves to a box and will never open their heart to other people to enter, so they will not be able to enter other people’s heart either. Between people, IYF teaches us to have a pure heart and communicate in a sincere, considerate way, which is not only an important factor in leadership but an integral element of a successful and meaningful life.
On the last day of the holiday, we went to the Olympic Stadium to have a rehearsal of Mini Olympic, which we will do at the final day of World Camp. This morning we had a very good time playing altogether in groups. Unfortunately our group didn’t win the competition. There were several games which we had to do in groups. The games include: steal the bacon, do mathematics formula, do quizzes, hippo drink, a tug of war, rope skipping, dance battle, and two other games which I don’t know how to call. Totally our group got 255 or so, which fail to reach even the third prize. However, we did enjoy playing together.
Tomorrow all volunteers will gather at NIE at 12:00 before the participants. That will be the first day we will meet our team members and experience the first day of the World Camp.

Responsibilities Distribution
IYF volunteers were invited to IYF Center on Sunday for being informed of responsibilities which we will have to do in World Camp. The responsibilities include:
-Reception
-Team leader
-Vehicle
-Translation
-Guide
-Security
-Performance preparation
-Tour
-Lodging
-Academy
-Mini-Olympic
-Stand-by
-VIP guide
-Performance progression
-Lighting
-Image
-Sound
-Internet
Among of these positions, I’m interested in being team leader and a translation. When I was on the midway of making decision to choose between these two positions, an announcement came up that all promotion leaders are directly chosen to be team leaders in the World Camp. Therefore, I had to abandon the other opportunity. However, a moment later, another announcement came up that a volunteer can take two responsibilities, but one of which can only be a translator. So, I asked for two responsibilities. I’m not quite sure if I can work it out. No matter how hard it will be, I will try to do my best. It will be a good experience and a difficult-to-seek chance for development.

IYF Volunteer Promotion Activities
Since Thursday (6th April) this week, all of the volunteers have been in charge of promoting the World Camp program to students of the university where we are studying at.
We have been given documents, banners, leaflets, and related posters to be used as aids in our promotion. We were required to organize a booth for this promotion at our university. There were a few hindrances in asking the university’s permission to set up the booth. However, we are finally given two-day permission (Saturday and Sunday) since there are two companies who have asked the permission before us.
1st day Promotion (8th April)
This morning (8th April) promotion was quite successful and satisfying although not many people registered. Totally we got five enrollments in the morning and one in the afternoon. We got eight enrollments if including Maramy’s individual promotion. Many students are quite interested in this program after listening to our explanation, but they hesitate to participate in because World Camp program occupies four full days and another half day on the 16th. Most people wish they could join it intermittently due to their inconvenience in their study and work. Nevertheless, we feel encouraged when people are interested in our activity.
2nd day of Promotion (9th April)
We set up the booth only in the morning, while we have to go to IYF at 3:00 in the afternoon to be informed of our new responsibilities as well as what we will do in the World Camp day. This morning, we got one participant who we have persuaded since last Friday. Besides, Nara got another four participants from NUM where he is studying at. Totally we get 13 participants these two days.
3rd day of Promotion (10th April)
Fortunately, Bong Malis allowed us to continue setting up the booth one more day on Monday. We had a chance to promote this program to the weekday students who we believe to have more interests in World Camp if compared to weekend students who are mostly working. However, the result was below expectation. We got only 3 enrollments. Many students were interested and asked us several questions about this program, but they needed time to think about it.
4th day of Promotion (11th April)
As a matter of fact, we didn’t set up the booth on this day because our permission was due. Nevertheless, since the students have known about our program on Monday, after one day of consideration, they decided to register with me. Today we totally got 15 enrollments, two from CES students, two from RULE students promoted by Raksa, and the rest are UC B.A. students who are my classmates who came and register in groups. Therefore, today we got a big harvest.
All the leaders have to report to IYF every evening after promotion. The first two days’ discussion finished very late. I arrived home at almost 8:30 which is quite frustrating and worrying for my mother. However, I had tried to explain to her to let her know what I am doing now and how I’d benefit from this program.
As a matter of fact, even before World Camp starts, I find myself change and developed in some ways. I learn the formal procedures of sending documents to the university; I talk to different people a day more than I used to talk to in a week; I can explain the program to others more than I expected; I build up friendship with other volunteers; and especially I am learning to cope with stress and hardship while being a leader of UC IYF volunteers.
Therefore, I believe that World Camp will bring me substantial non-financial benefits but it’s an invaluable experience for my life.
