Christmas party at UC

Christmas song was sung, Christmas cards were exchanged, Christmas gifts were exchanged on the day of Christmas, 25th December. In creative writing class, teacher Gloria organized a class party celebration for Christmas. She offered to make Spaghetti for us. It looked nice and was really delicious. All classmates contributed some money to buy extra food and drink for the party. We had pizza, chicken, and soft drinks. The party started with exchange of Christmas cards we made two days before, and then we prayed for one another, played game, took pictures, and had the meal. Everyone was full and was really enjoying the party. Indeed, we shall never forget.

Farewell Party

Very young she may look, but she is my marketing teacher, Miss Sok Keomony. Today (December 23, 2008) is her last day at UC. Therefore, all of my classmates held a small party for her. We sang several songs and took photos. She is a very good teacher indeed. Her explanation is very clear and pointed with sufficient examples. We love her much. Now she is going to pursue her study abroad in Sydney University, Australia.

Self-made Christmas card

This is creative writing class. Guess what we are doing? It’s some kind of fun which really suits my personality and interest. I like to design, to draw, and to color. I really appreciate my teacher for this activity before Christmas. What can you think of? …….yes, we are making a Christmas card by ourselves. On Christmas day, Dec 25, we are going to exchange our ‘masterpiece’ which comes from our creative ideas and sincere heart.
Now have a look at my Christmas card. What do you think? This card cost no more than 500 Riels for the materials! You may be surprised! From where I bought the materials you may ask. Tell you the secret, I bought the card paper for 300 Riels, whereas the picture of Santa Claus, the flower, the tree, the reindeers…are from the old Christmas cards given by my friends and classmates years ago, at least 7 or 8 years ago. Recycle is a very good doing in these days. We should contribute, even a little, to save our world as much as we can.

Wedding Party

2008-12-22

Keo's aunt's wedding

The wedding was held at the house of the bride's house, in front of Toul Tom Poung Primary School. We enjoyed the occasion very much because it's a time for us to meet and to be together again. Everyone was in their best dress and with the happiest smiling face! We are looking forward to another wedding within our friends so that we can be as happy as we were in this occasion again.

Tang Yuan, a dessert

Tang Yuan(汤圆), called ‘Nom Yi’ in Khmer, is a kind of dessert that is made and eaten on December 21 or 22 which is a day Chinese people call ‘Dong Zhi’(冬至)—‘The end of winter’. I’m not clear about the history of why this dessert is eaten on this day, but according to old people and what I’ve learnt, the round balls that made from flour and green bean paste means ‘reunion’ or ‘staying together’(团圆). Family members gather and eat it together. My mother told me that long ago Tang Yuan was not a dessert, and it’s not filled with bean paste as today. What does it look like then? She said that it was made with solely flour, rolled into strings and cut into chicken soup, so it tasted salty not sweet. But everything has changed so far. I don’t know what kind of Tang Yuan is eaten in China nowadays, but the one shown in the picture is what my family has in Cambodia. Once a year we eat it, and we like it!

Let's Imagine

Woo! Woo! Cold wind is blowing!
See? So white the snowflake is falling.
In the house, playing ‘Jingle Bell’,
Feeling extreme delighted we can tell.

We are sitting around fireplace,
Smile and happiness on the face.
Sparkling ornaments on Christmas tree,
Presents under are for you and me.

Eh? Smell something? The roasted turkey!
Everyone gathers and has it free.
Plus chocolate drink and Christmas cakes,
The most delicious things we ever taste.

Fascinating games we are playing,
Humorous jokes we are telling,
Good prayers and wishes for others,
Happiest time ever spending together.

Though there aren’t turkey and tree,
Neither snowflake we can see,
Only best wishes and regards,
Pls all them put in your precious cards!

A Gift

Look beautiful? This bracelet was from a friend (Vutha) studying at UC. He went to Siem Reap as one of the UC representatives to participate the MTVExit Concert last week. When he returned from the trip, he bought me this little cute bracelet for keep sake! Thanks him very much for this gift!

Criticism again!

Since I started the second year as a sophomore, I find that I become a critic. Before I’d rarely criticized my teachers when I was a high school student, and I felt that I learnt many things from them. However, of late I have had strong demand from my lecturers, meaning I often feel that they are not good enough or not qualified to teach me. I don’t know if this happens because of a change of my behaviour or it is the real problem of the lecturers. In fact, they are Master or even PhD graduates, but I feel that they don’t understand the students and don’t teach us in a way that we can understand it. My marketing and microeconomic lecturers are the examples. Besides, I really don’t like my English teacher at RULE! He teaches the book ‘Business Concept’. However, I find out that he doesn’t have enough knowledge in business management to teach us (General English MAY be possible!). He doesn’t really understand most of the key terms in business such as ‘Target market’, ‘broker’, ‘bookkeeper’, to name a few. But what I don’t like is that he never tells us that he doesn’t understand the terms, instead he tries to explain them based on his OWN understanding, meaning a wrong way! Of course, there are many problems related to him. For example, it maybe his habit to come late to class, never speak English in full sentences (it’s an English class!), threaten students by mark deduction,….I hardly believe that there is such a teacher existing in universities. What do you think about him?

I learn nothing!

I’m a sophomore at both UC and RULE this year. Coincidently, in this term I study a marketing course at both universities. Marketing is one of my favourite courses because I’m interested in how a product is produced and how it is sold to gain customer value and satisfaction. There are many things I want to learn in marketing. What makes me upset is that I’ve learnt nothing from my marketing class at RULE!

I don’t mean to gossip my teachers, but it’s just a way to express my personal view about them. If you want me to compare my marketing teacher at UC and that at RULE, I will not hesitate to tell you the one at UC is much much more better!! As a matter of fact, I still don’t learn the definition of marketing from the teacher at RULE. He never mentions it and so far the lesson has been all about ‘Decision Making’ which is only a part of marketing. It is not only me who don’t understand the lesson and find the class boring, but I believe, as I’ve noticed, almost all my classmates feel the same.

Fortunately, I learnt everything from my marketing teacher at UC. I don’t mean to compare which university is better but solely the teachers. I hope what I comment on the teachers doesn’t affect the universities’ image.
